SMS Athletics

Basketball, Tennis, Volleyball, and Track are all sponsored by Albemarle County Parks and Recreation

Parks and Rec Basketball takes place in the fall for boys and girls. Forms and information can be found on the Parks and Rec website. Boys practice on Mondays/Wednesdays and girls practice on Tuesdays/Thursdays after school until 5:45. For away games, players will ride on a school bus to the away site, but there is no return bus. Parents should pick up at the away school. 

Parks and Rec Girls Volleyball is during February through March. Forms and information can be found on the Parks and Rec website. Practice time is after school until 5:45. Bus transportation is provided for players to away games but there is no return bus. Players should be picked up at the away school.

 Sutherland Girls' Lacrosse - Practice 2 days a week in the Spring with games on Sundays. Registration forms are available at agll.org.

Suthe​rland Parks and Rec Track begins after Spring Break. Forms and information can be found on the Parks and Rec website. Practice is 2 days a week at Sutherland until 5:30. There is one big track meet with the other 4 middle schools.  Bus transportation is provided to Walton, but there will be no return bus. Parents should pick up at Walton.

Sutherland Co-ed Flag Football will be offered in the winter months through parks and rec. The format is pick-up games after school until 5:15. 


Sutherland Tennis begins in the Fall. Practice is on Mondays/Wednesdays this year until 5:30 at Sutherland. Our format is great for beginner and intermediate players. One to two matches will be scheduled with other schools during the season. Pick up will be at those schools after the matches are complete.
