Message to Charter Schools Community from newly-appointed principal, Chad Ratliff

Dear Members of our Charter Communities:

At their meeting on June 19, our School Board appointed me as the new principal for Murray High School and Community Public Charter School.

This is an incredible opportunity for someone who strongly believes in a learning environment that centers on student voice, influence and empowerment. For someone who values not just the teaching of knowledge but the designing of real world experiences to align skills with our modern economy. And for someone who knows from experience that the building of relationships, both internal and external, is fundamental to education excellence.

Over the past few years as our division’s Director of Innovation and Instructional Programs, these philosophies have shaped the ways in which I have designed programs and managed such initiatives as our $3.4 million Investing in Innovation federal grant. My service on the Governor’s Council for Youth Entrepreneurship and on the state’s Advisory Committee for Career and Technical Education, has reinforced my confidence that experiential learning and authenticity unleash what all students are capable of achieving.

One of the founding principles of our charter schools is a culture that believes in the potential within every student and one that welcomes non-traditional approaches to ignite learning. I agree that a diverse, multi-faceted approach is invaluable to meeting our educational responsibilities to all students.

I am grateful for Ashby’s leadership at Murray and CPCS over the past several years and am excited about working with you in the future. I will be providing opportunities over the summer for us to meet and to hear from you and discuss your suggestions for how we can extend excellence at our schools.

Thank you for the invaluable contributions you have made for our students and for your continuing commitment to our mission to prepare every student for lifelong success.

Best wishes for a healthy and enjoyable summer.
