This is college week at Albemarle High School, and workshops are being held in the school every day to help students think through and finalize plans to continue their education after high school. The workshops assist students with how to engage in the college application process, write essays for admission, research scholarship opportunities, and use the school’s new online college planning program, Naviance.
On Wednesday, representatives from 14 historically black colleges will be available to talk with parents and students about their schools, the fields of study they offer, and their admission processes. Albemarle High School counselors will be on hand, as well as community organizations offering support and resources.
The following evening, Thursday, Albemarle’s counseling department will provide information on the college financial aid process. Representatives from the University of Virginia and Piedmont Virginia Community College will provide guidance and answer questions on how students can benefit from various financial aid programs. To assist families, child care and interpretation will be available.
Parents and students who plan to attend the financial aid session and are interested in completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) should bring their 2015 tax return and their student laptop.
