ArtFest in the West Aims to Raise $10,000 to Support Arts Education
ArtFest in the West
Friday, March 3, 2017, 6 to 9 p.m.
Western Albemarle High School Cafeteria, 5941 Rockfish Gap Turnpike, Crozet
Western Albemarle County art students, parents, and teachers will host the 5th annual ArtFest in the West fundraiser on Friday, March 3. Organized by the non-profit group Arts in Western Education (AWE), the event will feature music, food, and lots of family fun, including student performances, a medieval costume contest, ceramics demonstrations, a silent auction, and more.
The theme of this year’s event, “Magical Medieval Night of Family Fun,” is inspired by Western Albemarle High School’s spring musical, Once Upon a Mattress. ArtFest guests will be treated to a sneak preview of the show, in addition to performances by Henley Middle School’s Jazz Band as well as Western’s Jazz Band, Choir, and Orchestra. The event will be emceed by the Director of the Virginia Film Festival and Western Albemarle County parent, Jody Kielbasa.
Organizers hope to raise $10,000 to support arts education in Albemarle County’s western feeder pattern schools, including Western Albemarle High School; Henley Middle School; and Brownsville, Crozet, Meriwether Lewis, and Murray elementary schools.
Entrance to the event is free. Businesses interested in sponsoring ArtFest or donating to the silent auction may contact Ellen Beard at 434-984-2266.
