Redistricting Decision

On March 14, 2013, the School Board made the following decision regarding redistricting students at Meriwether Lewis Elementary:

The School Board will take no current action to redistrict students at Meriwether Lewis Elementary School.

Synopsis

According to a July report by the Long-Range Planning Advisory Committee, the four elementary schools in the Western Feeder Pattern, including Brownsville, Crozet, Meriwether Lewis and Murray, are at 90 percent capacity and are located in a county-designated growth area, so enrollments are expected to approach and possibly exceed available classroom seats over the next few years.

At their September 23, 2012 meeting, the School Board directed Superintendent Pam Moran to appoint a Redistricting Advisory Committee to address capacity issues at multiple county elementary schools. The Western Feeder Pattern Redistricting Advisory Subcommittee will consider reassignment of students within the Western Feeder Pattern and possible additions to existing schools.

Subcommittee Membership

The Western Feeder Pattern Subcommittee includes members from the four Western Feeder Pattern elementary school communities (Brownsville, Crozet, Meriwether Lewis and Murray), plus the Red Hill Elementary School community in the Southern Feeder Pattern. Red Hill is a possible destination for some Western Feeder Pattern students. The subcommittee also includes a Long-Range Planning Advisory Committee representative and an Equity and Diversity representative.

April 2013	Families will be notified of any changes to take effect in the 2013-14 school year

Subcommittee Meeting Schedule

All regular subcommittee meetings will begin with a school tour at 5:45 p.m. (subcommittee members only), unless otherwise noted. The meeting portion of each evening will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Please note: All regular subcommittee meetings are open to the public; however, community members are asked not to participate in the dialogue during the meetings. Each meeting will include a break, during which community members are welcome to connect with committee members and share their thoughts.
