Albemarle County Public Schools Celebrates Youth Art Month in Partnership with Piedmont Council for the Arts
Youth Art Month Opening Reception
March 1, 2013, from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
CitySpace Gallery, located at 100 5th Street NE in Charlottesville
In partnership with Piedmont Council for the Arts and in observance of Youth Art Month, Albemarle County Public Schools will celebrate its 20th annual Visual Arts Festival by filling the CitySpace Gallery with student artwork from all 26 schools. Light music selections will be performed by the Monticello High School Chamber Music class, and children can explore a hands-on activity table. This event is free and open to the public.
The CitySpace exhibit will feature artwork from students in preschool through high school and will include a variety of mediums, such as watercolor, photography, paper collage, scratchboard drawings, mosaics, and pen and ink drawings. Artists have provided statements explaining their inspiration, the skills they learned, and the cultural contexts for their work. The CitySpace exhibit will run from March 1-28.
In addition to the CitySpace exhibit, the Albemarle County Public Schools Visual Arts Festival is featuring student artwork at the Charlottesville Albemarle Airport through April 10, and at Fashion Square Mall from March 3-24.
